How to Start Before You Are Ready
Sometimes a goal or habit change can seem overwhelming or insurmountable. How do you go from no regular exercise routine to working out 4-5 times per week? How do you go from a processed food diet to clean eating? Use the One Push Up Rule that’s how!
What is the One Push Up Rule?
You commit to making one very small change per day toward whatever your goal is (performing one push up per day, eating one carrot per day, performing one task etc). You set the bar so low at first that it’s almost impossible to find an excuse not to.
Committing to starting this small will result in two things:
- Each day that you accomplish your goal you will gain some momentum and confidence in your abilities. Once you create a consistent habit in your day you can begin to capitalize on it and before you know it you have a lot to show for yourself.
- You will find that after a while it’s easy to overshoot that goal. You find that one push up is no problem so you do two. You find that eating one carrot is easy so you add a carrot and some broccoli to your lunch each day.
Often getting started is the hardest part. Once the ball starts rolling it often continues to roll with little effort.
