When you are feeling stuck, remember the 3 Rs
We all run into roadblocks in life. It would be great if we didn’t. If all of our plans ran smoothly and we achieved success in everything on the first try!
Well…..actually….. maybe that wouldn’t be so great. Real life requires contrasts. Contrasts give us a frame of reference.
We know what happiness feels like because we have sadness to compare it to.
We know the beauty of sunlight because of it’s contrast to cloudy skies.
The supreme joy of reaching our goals is so joyful because we know how defeating roadblocks and failures feel.

So, roadblocks are here to say and we will continue to run into them as long as we continue to learn and grow. That’s why so many of my podcast episodes talk about roadblocks. We have to get past them on the way to success. And, just like there is not one best diet for everyone, there is no one best way to manage your emotions and get through tough times.
I’ve talked about planning for ruined plans – preparing for the roadblocks. I’ve also given many tips on ways to reset our mindset in order to navigate around roadblocks when they show up.
Today’s tip is another in the series of ways to navigate the roadblocks in life.
It’s to remember the 3 r’s.
The 3 Rs
If you are feeling stuck, one way to pull yourself out of your funk is to follow the 3 r’s:
Reconnect with your Purpose
Refresh your Rituals
Recount your blessings
Reconnect with Your Purpose

Reconnecting with your purpose means reminding yourself why you are on this road to begin with.
Why do you want to get healthier anyways?
Why did you want to take this course or learn a new skill?
Why did you want to start a business in the first place?
Come back to that ‘why’. Write it down and post it somewhere you will see it.
Tap back into that motivation you had when you began this journey and remember why it’s worth it to keep going and push past the current roadblocks.
Refresh Your Rituals

Next is to refresh your rituals. It’s the little rituals or habits that you do on a daily basis that either get you closer to your goals or further away.
Take a look at what you are doing each day. How is your sleep? How are your meals and your activity level? Are you still performing the same habits or routines as when you began towards this goal? If not, think about why. Were they too restrictive or time consuming? Did they actually fit with how you live and your personal circumstances? Maybe you need to try a different approach or different habits. Have you reverted back to any old unhealthy habits?
The little things you do each day add up to success. They gradually condition your body and your mind to induce positive change.
Recount your blessings

Take a look at how far you’ve come. Really look. When you are feeling stuck and frustrated it can feel like you are right back at the beginning. However that’s actually not the case. You have learned something and you know more than you did at the beginning.
Think about your successes (if you need help with this listen to Episode 55 on how to Take Account of Your Accomplishments).
In addition, think about where you are right now, what you have, who you are and what you are grateful for.
Mindset matters and the scientific benefits of gratitude are clear. Studies have shown that recounting your blessings and what you are grateful for improves your physical and mental health, your self esteem and your resilience ( or your ability to overcome obstacles in your life).

There are many roadblocks on the path to success. It’s OK to get caught and feel stuck here. You are in good company…we all feel this way at some point.
Take some time to remember the three r’s – reconnect with your purpose, refresh your rituals and recount your blessings. I promise that you will find the renewed motivation and energy to pick yourself up and keep going – willpower not required.
